Citizenship of the European Union: rights of EU citizens and its impact on the legal order of the Czech Republic

This diploma thesis explores content, purpose and impact of citizenship of the European Union. The European Union is an international organization that affects day-to-day lives of citizens of its Member States. From the beginning of its existence, the European Union (formerly the European Community) has always taken into consideration the interests of its Member States. As it has accrued more power while widening and broadening its competencies, it has made it possible for the European Union to tackle new problems. Eventually, in order to reduce democratic deficit participation of individual citizens became inevitable for the purpose of creation of a genuine link between individuals and the European Union, which helps to ensure its proper governance. Although some rights linked with citizenship had been already incorporated into the law of the European Union, citizenship of the European Union was embedded into the primary law of the European Union by the Maastricht Treaty. Entering into force on 1 November 1993, this represented a milestone for the quality of the relationship between the European Union and citizens of its Member States. The concept of investor in international agreements on the protection of investments

The term "investor" in international investment agreements The aim of this thesis is to explain, compare and evaluate the meaning of investor as one of the key terms used in the area of international investment protection. From a systematic point of view, international investment activities are governed by international economic law, which is a sub-discipline of public international law. Foreign investment as a transfer of assets from one country to another in order to generate wealth is a kind of activity known and done since the era of colonialism or even before. The subjects carrying out these operations are called investors. However the framework of international investment protection as we know it today started out when the so called bilateral investment treaties (BITs) became commonly used to protect and promote international investing. These treaties entered into by states as sovereign members of the international community stipulated conditions to protect each other's investors in order to stimulate the flow of free capital over the borders. Students from Polish territories at "Vysoká škola obchodní" in the interwar period

The bachelor thesis titled 'Students from Polish territories at "Vysoká škola obchodní" in the interwar period' makes an attempt to chart the presence of Polish students following aspects such as their nationality, place of birth, religion and citizenship. The thesis' research is based on archive materials from the Czech technical university, where repositories from the "Vysoká škola obchodní" were used. The thesis focuses on students who were either born in former Poland or had written evidence of polish nationality or citizenship at the University of Commerce. The repositories put to use are dating back to the academic years 1918 to 1938. During research, frequent changes of both Polish and Ukrainian names and surnames were noticed, and in some cases there were linguistic adaptations towards Polish language while in other cases towards Czech language. Evidence of respective nationality did not begin to show on records until 1925, when mostly due to geopolitical developments it became clear to what country the students belonged. An interesting chapter, accompanied by graphs, tackles the question of religion. Surveyed students from Halič were mostly Greek-Catholics, while the rest were either Catholics or Jews. Individuals from other religious groups, such as the Czech Brethren or Baptist Church...

Diplomatic Protection

This diploma thesis deals with the topic of diplomatic protection and it's use in the system of international law. The goal of this thesis is to describe the legal institute of diplomatic protection and how it is exercised and to describe both the historical development of the institute and it's future direction. The thesis is divided into five chapters that gradually develop and analyse the topic. The first chapter deals with the definition of the legal term diplomatic protection and it's content. It also lists the conditions under which the diplomatic protection can be exercised. Part of the chapter deals with the history of the institute and also speaks about some legal institutes similar to diplomatic protection. The second chapter summarises the efforts taken in order to codify the institute and introduces Draft Articles on Diplomatic Protection to the reader. This chapter also describes the current situation of usage of the institute. The third chapter is focused on exercising diplomatic protection on behalf of individual citizens. It's main focus is to list all the necessary conditions under which can diplomatic protection be used in those cases.
